Developmental- Checkups

Pediatric Village is thrilled to provide our community with regular developmental- checkups. We take our children to the Doctor to receive medical checkups. Developmental checkups are equally important to ensure the wellness of the whole child. Checkups are for parents to ask questions and receive support regarding their child's development. Our next series will be starting in the beginning of June. If you miss one of our checkup series, please reach out, we can make other arrangements. Checkups are FREE and for children birth through 5 years of age.

Pediatric Village Believes

  • Support during the early years of life is important for ALL children and their families

  • No parent should ever feel dismissed when raising concerns about their child's development.

  • Support can begin in infancy

  • All people are happier when they are part of a support village.

Why are Developmental Checkups Important?

  • Early Identification: Developmental checkups help identify children who may be at risk for developmental delays or disabilities, enabling early intervention and support. â€‹

  • Improved outcomes: Early intervention can help children with developmental delays catch up and reach their full potential. â€‹

  • Parent education: Developmental checkups can provide parents with information about their child's development and how to support their child's growth. â€‹

  • Access to resources: If a child's development is concerning, developmental checkups can help parents access resources and services that can support their child's development.

What is a Developmental Checkup?

  • Definition: Developmental checkups are tools used to assess a child's progress in key areas of development, including physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and language skills. â€‹

  • Purpose: They help identify potential developmental delays or concerns early on, allowing for timely intervention and support.

  • How they work: Developmental checkups can involve brief tests or questionnaires for parents to complete, or they can be done through observations by healthcare professionals. â€‹

  • Not a diagnosis: These checkups do not provide a diagnosis, but they can indicate whether a child needs further evaluation by a specialist. â€‹

  • Importance: Early identification of developmental delays can lead to improved outcomes for children.

Who Should Get a Developmental Checkup?

  • Routine screenings: The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that all children receive developmental screenings at certain ages, including 9, 18, and 30 months.

  • When concerns arise: Developmental checkups should also be considered when parents or healthcare professionals have concerns about a child's development. â€‹

  • Children with known risks: Children with known risk factors should receive regular developmental checkups.

  • Prematurity

  • Medical or Developmental complexities
